And yes, I’m not not kidding.

Today I’m going to a funeral for a friend, John Dawson. John was the father of a very good and lifelong friend of mine, Jeff Dawson. John was always a good man. I guess it’s true what they say about “only the good die young”. And Jeff, well, let me just say this. Like father, like son. Keep on making your father proud, like you always have done.

To all of you out there who are searching for happiness, I have some bad news for you. You’ll never find it. This is because you are looking in the wrong place. Happiness can’t be found in any one place because it comes from within. Happiness is an attitude, a way in which you carry yourself. It’s a decicion that you, and you alone, come upon by yourself. It’s also something that is attainable by anyone. You simply have to make up your mind that that’s what you want. But there is one thing you do need to know. And it’s the simple fact that you cannot do it alone . . .

I thought I discovered that life sucks. But I was wrong (it happens, this ‘being wrong’ shit, okay?). What I did discover was this. If you love someone, and (and this is important, a whole very lot important) they love you back, then life is the most wonderful and fulfilling thing in the world. And if it happens to be true love, then change that term to ‘Universe’. Myself, I’m there now.

Life is a funny thing. Shit happens. And contrary to popular opinion, what does happen really doesn’t matter. You can’t control what happens. What you can control is how you respond to it. And that’s what really matters. Keep that in mind, and let life happen. For better or worse, live your life. It’s all you’ve got.
